The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa donated US1.2 million worth of medical equipment to hospital on his birthday, 11th of August , in fulfillment of a promise he made to the Mepe community.
The donation was a 40ft shipping container of medical equipment and supplies including anesthesia machines, ECG/EKG, ultrasound, endoscopy tower, x-ray machine, infant incubators, infant warmers, autoclaves, defibrillators, lab freezer, CPAP, labor/delibery beds, OR light, suction machines, patient monitor, oxygen system, pulse oximeters, surgery tables, refrigerator for storing vaccines, wheelchairs, sphygmomanometer and many more.
It would be recalled that the Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated a controlled release of water from the Akosombo dam in October of 2023, as a measure to safeguard the dam from potential topping over, which led to the flooding of low-lying areas along its course, which led to the destruction of houses, businesses and other facilities in the North Tongu district.
Located near a resettlement camp constructed for those displaced by the spillage, the Mepe Health Centre’s construction and equipment provision were part of Mr. Ablakwa’s broader efforts to rebuild and support the North Tongu community after the devastating spillage, which displaced many residents.
Mr. Ablakwa expressed his gratitude to his generous partners and SOS International which is headquartered in the USA for the successful collaboration. The MP also expressed his gratitude to Citi FM Foundation and the Ghana Chamber of Mines for sponsoring the physical construction of the health centre.
Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that his vision is to ensure the expansion and upgrading of the Mepe Health Centre into a modern hospital by next year.
